Qualifications

When our department has a completed portfolio of data for a student, the qualification criteria is applied and families are notified about their student’s status. All students who meet qualification criteria will be offered all services for which they are eligible.

Use the infographic below to explore the varied ways a student can qualify for services.

Pathways to Qualification

1. Naglieri Screener & Local Data Review

When students score at or above the 95th percentile on Naglieri, local assessment data is reviewed (IRR, STAR, SBA). If that review shows 2 or more grade levels of advancement or SBA scores are in the top half of level 4, students are given qualification in Math and/or Reading. If data review doesn't result in qualification, the ITBS is administered and ITBS criteria are applied.

2. Naglieri Screener & ITBS Assessment

If a student scores at or above the 95th percentile on Naglieri, but local assessment data does not result in qualification in one or more areas, the ITBS and Torrance are administered. Students are eligible for program if the ITBS scores are at or above the 95th percentile in Math and/or Reading

3. ITBS Assessment & Torrance Assessment

If a student scores below the 95th percentile on Naglieri, but at or above the 85th percentile, the ITBS and the Torrance are administered. If the student scores at or above the 95th percentile on ITBS Math and/or ITBS Reading AND the student scored at or above the 90th percentile on the Torrance, the student is eligible for services.

4. Torrance Assessment & Local Data Review

If a student scores below the 95th percentile on Naglieri, but at or above the 85th percentile, the ITBS and the Torrance are administered. If the student scores at or the 90th percentile on the Torrance AND the student scores between the 90th and 94th percentile on ITBS Math and/or ITBS Reading, a review of Local Assessment Data is conducted. If that review shows 2 or more grade levels of advancement or SBA scores are in the top half of level 4, students are given qualification in Math and/or Reading.

5. ITBS Assessment & Torrance Assessment

If a student scores below the 95th percentile on Naglieri, but at or above the 85th percentile, the ITBS and the Torrance are administered. If the student scores at or above the 95th percentile on ITBS Math and/or ITBS Reading and scores between the 85th and 89th percentile on the Torrance, a review of Local Assessment Data is conducted. If that review shows 2 or more grade levels of advancement or SBA scores are in the top half of level 4, students are given qualification in Math and/or Reading.

Additional Pathways

Kindergarten students qualify when they score at or above the 95th percentile on the Nalgieri OR at or above the 90th percentile on the Torrance.

8th grade students qualify when they score at or above the 95th percentile on the Nalgieri OR at or above the 90th percentile on the Torrance AND score in the top half of level 4 in Math or Reading on SBA.

When will I receive my student's results?

Last year, 3,500+ students across the district were administered assessments over a broad window of time. Student scores are sent to the district in intervals. Results are then sent to parents. This means families will receive notification at different times. Eligibility notification is sent by both email and U.S. Mail.

The chart below will be updated daily. It reflects the percentage of eligibility notifications that have been sent out. The chart is organized by school and grade. There are a variety of reasons why a particular school and grade level may not yet be at 100% notification on the chart. These include:

  • We are awaiting receipt of test scores from scoring centers.
  • Analysis of a student portfolio is in progress.
  • The student was assessed later in the process, so test scores haven’t been received yet.

7/27/18: Attention Private School Families! If you have not yet received notification, it is because we are still awaiting a Torrance score for your student.

Until your student’s grade level reaches 100%, we encourage you to check this chart daily. If your grade level at your school has shown 100% for three business days and you have not received an email or a letter in the mail, please feel free to e-mail us at hicap@nsd.org.  Be sure to include your student’s full name, student ID number (if applicable), school, and grade.
