Current Students

In accordance with WAC 392-170-055, Northshore School District uses multiple objective criteria for identification of highly capable students. Our screening thresholds can be found at this link: 2018-2019 Screening Thresholds

Students who enrolled prior to August 11th had the opportunity to participate in a portfolio review and testing over the summer. A summary of the evaluation process can be found at this link: New to Northshore (Enrolling prior to August 11, 2018).

Identification (by Current Grade Level)

Kindergarten

  • Screening: WaKIDS
  • Assessment: Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3)

First Grade

  • Screening: Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3) and Individual Reading Record (IRR)
  • Assessment: Iowa Assessments in Math and Reading

Note: Holistic designations last through the end of first grade. All first graders, including those with Holistic designations, will participate in screening.

Second Grade

  • Screening: Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3) and Individual Reading Record (IRR)
  • Assessment: Iowa Assessments in Math and Reading

Third Grade

  • Screening: Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3) and Star Reading
  • Assessment: Iowa Assessments in Math and Reading

Fourth Grade

  • Screening: Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3) and Smarter Balanced Assessments
  • Assessment: Iowa Assessments in Math and Reading

Fifth Grade

  • Screening: Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3), Star, and Smarter Balanced Assessments
  • Assessment: Iowa Assessments in Math and Reading

Sixth Grade

Students who were enrolled in the district last year and have a NNAT3 score from the 2017-2018 eligibility process will follow this process: 

  • Screening: Smarter Balanced Assessments
  • Assessment: Iowa Assessments in Math and Reading and/or Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3) 

Sixth and seventh grade students who were not enrolled in the district last year and do not have a NNAT3 score will follow a different eligibility process: 

  • Screening: Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3)
  • Assessment: File review of report card, transcripts, SBA (or comparable standardized academic achievement data)

Seventh Grade

Students who were enrolled in the district last year and have a NNAT3 score from the 2017-2018 eligibility process will follow this process: 

  • Screening: Smarter Balanced Assessments
  • Assessment: Iowa Assessments in Math and Reading and/or Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3) 

Sixth and seventh grade students who were not enrolled in the district last year and do not have a NNAT3 score will follow a different eligibility process: 

  • Screening: Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3)
  • Assessment: File review of report card, transcripts, SBA (or comparable standardized academic achievement data)

Eighth Grade and Beyond

Screening & Assessment: Grade 8-12 students are evaluated by a review of their most recent report card, transcripts, SBA, or other standardized academic achievement data. More detail about the application process for grades 8-12 can be found here: Eighth Grade and Beyond.
