New to NSD (Enrolling prior to August 10, 2018)
Families enrolling and contacting the Highly Capable Department between April 24 and August 10, 2018 had several opportunities to participate in the Highly Capable Eligibility Process. The Highly Capable Eligibility Process options for families new to Northshore was outlined and communicated through Highly Capable informational flyers included in all new student enrollment packets distributed by the school’s main office.
For students enrolling in Northshore with current Highly Capable designation from a previous school district, a comprehensive file review was conducted. Families of students with current Highly Capable designation submitted all documentation to firstname.lastname@example.org. Documentation included:
● CogAT or Naglieri (NNAT3) (cognitive)
● IOWA Assessment (ITBS) (academic)
● Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (TTCT) (creativity)
● Washington State Testing - Smarter Balanced
● District Assessments (IRR, STAR, report cards, etc.)
A district team convened to review submitted materials, applying Northshore’s eligibility criteria. Students with a portfolio of comparable assessment data will be offered Highly Capable qualification.
Students seeking potential Highly Capable qualification without a previous designation participated in spring/summer Screening and Assessment. Screening was conducted on identified dates in April, May, June, July and the week of August 6th, 2018. Students meeting or exceeding the 85th percentile on the Screening tool (NNAT3) move to Assessment. Assessment is the administration of the ITBS and TTCT, conducted on identified dates in May, June, July and the week of August 13th, 2018.
