Meal Charge Procedure

The intent of this procedure is to ensure responsible financial management of the Food Service Program and consistent student-oriented practices at each school.  This procedure is intended to be proactive and appropriate for students at different grade levels with an emphasis on minimizing any embarrassment that can be caused by a student running out of money on their student meal account. 

Parents can prepay on their student's meal account by cash or check (made out to Northshore School District).  Parents can also use PayPAMS to pay online at www.paypams.com.  PayPAMS charges a convenience fee for each payment transaction.

Tracking Your Student's Balance

Starting with the 2017-18 school year Food Services will no longer be making the weekly negative balance phone calls or sending out negative balance emails.  PayPAMS will continue to email low balance reminders.  

  • You can track your student's meal account balance with the Northshore School District mobile app at www.nsd.org/mobileapp where you will find more information about this feature. 
  • You can also access your student's meal account balance with the PayPAMS Mobile App or online at www.PayPAMS.com.  There is no fee for viewing student balances.

Elementary Schools - Low Balance Process

  •  An effort shall be made by Food Services to communicate with the student's household so payment can be issued before the account goes into the negative.  Written low balance notices will be sent home when the balance on the meal account is low.  The notice will be placed in the teacher's box to be given to the student to take home.
  • When the account balance reaches the equivalent of negative two lunches, Food Services staff will connect the family and problem solve. 
  • The purchase of ala carte items when an account is negative, or will become negative due to the charge, is strictly prohibited. 
  • Unpaid meal charges must be paid in full when a student graduates or moves to a new school district. 

Secondary Schools - Low Balance Process

  •  An effort will be made by the cashier to let the student know when their account is low and when the account goes into the negative. 
  • When the account balance reaches the equivalent of negative two lunches, Food Services staff will connect with the family and problem solve.

The goal of Northshore School district Food Services breakfast and lunch program is to provide healthy meals to children during the school year.  You play a key role in this effort, and are responsible for purchases made by your child in our school cafeterias and in keeping their meal accounts in good standing.
