Curriculum Materials Adoption Process

The information below addresses only the procedural steps needed to submit materials to CMAC for review. Staff should read and understand Board policy and procedure 2020 and  2020P prior to submitting material to CMAC.

Step One:

Applicants seeking approval of instructional materials (the "sponsor") begin by contacting their principal and the appropriate Instructional Support person to discuss the process. Obadiah Dunham (Curriculum and Instruction K-12), Julie Trembath-Neuberger (Special Education-Secondary), Kim Durkin (Special Education-Elementary), Damen Schuneman (College and Career Readiness), and Shelby Reynolds (Instructional Technology) will provide guidance, reviewing these considerations:

  • Alignment with standards, district curriculum, and program needs
  • Criteria for scientifically-based research in the content areas
  • Funding source

Once it has been decided to move forward with the CMAC submission, sponsors should contact the Administrative Assistant for CMAC (Anne Deutschman: or x7703) to request a date for the presentation of materials to CMAC. Materials must be received by the due date for the meeting date requested to secure a place on the agenda (see the CMAC Timeline below).

Step Two:

The sponsor is responsible for completing the sponsor documentation, as well as soliciting the appropriate teacher and principal reviews. The documentation required is dependent upon the type of materials being submitted. Please read the Application Process Instructions. to determine the documentation needed. Step Three:

Send the completed CMAC application packet to Obadiah Dunham, Chair of the Curriculum Materials Adoption Committee, before the application deadline.

Step Four:

Sponsors will be notified in writing of the date and time for presenting materials to the CMAC. Sponsors will then receive a written notification of the committee's recommendation within fifteen working days of the next School Board meeting.
