In the months leading up to the February 13 special election, the District informed voters of an inequity that was created by the legislature's new funding formula, which limits how much a district can collect in voter-approved levies. This formula would force the District to ask for $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed property value - down from $1.93 that voters had approved in the last election. Northshore asked voters to approve up to $1.82 per $1,000 of assessed property value for Prop 1 in hopes that efforts to convince legislators to create a more equitable solution would be successful. The legislature did not agree to a solution. Therefore, the 2019 tax rate for Prop 1 stands at $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed value and that is all the District will collect.
