Three Northshore Students Named Semifinalists in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program

Congratulations to Woodinville High School seniors Vivian Balasu and Jackson Subcleff, and North Creek High School senior Michael Albrecht, who were named semifinalists in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. These students join 18 other Washington state students who have demonstrated leadership and school and community involvement.  According to a press release, they may also receive discretionary points for extraordinary achievement, heavy workload, family responsibilities, or obstacles they’ve overcome. They were nominated by their school, selected by a team of Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) staff and confirmed by Superintendent Reykdal to move forward in the process.

These students will join others who were invited based on their ACT/SAT scores, as well as students nominated for their achievement in the arts or career and technical education, to be judged by the Commission on Presidential Scholars. 

Nominees who are selected as Presidential Scholars will receive a trip to Washington D.C., where they will receive their Presidential Scholar Medallion at a ceremony sponsored by the White House. Students will then be invited to meet with politicians, authors, educators, musicians, scientists. They will also be provided the opportunity to discuss the issues that concern America and the world.
