Inglemoor High School’s new performance and instruction building will be a concert hall

The Northshore School District Board announced that Inglemoor High School’s new performance and instruction building will be a concert hall that will accommodate approximately 750 seats and add classroom and instruction space to the school. Northshore voters approved building the performance hall during the February 2018 bond and levy election.

The concert hall, which will be located on the north side of the existing school campus, has a budget of $26 million and is scheduled to open in fall 2021.

An advisory committee that was formed to craft a vision for the new building determined that a concert hall was the best option for the District. The committee included teachers, students and staff, as well as District administration and school board members.

During its Sept. 11 meeting, the board also announced that it has approved awarding the construction of the new structure to Cornerstone General Contractors after a bid selection process. The Bothell-based construction services company also built North Creek High School.

“This is a much-needed facility in our district, so it’s very exciting to get this going. With the continued growth in Kenmore, more classroom space will continue to be needed,” Northshore School Board president Sandy Hayes said during the meeting. “We look forward to being there on opening night listening to the first performance.”

A steering committee that will inform the conceptual design of the concert hall and instructional space kicked off its first meeting on Sept. 12 with a discussion about the educational specifications and looked at a preliminary floorplan created by Hutteball & Oremus, the architectural firm in charge of the project’s design. The committee is made up of District leadership and key instructional users of the space and will be engaged in the schematic design as well.

Inglemoor’s existing theater will also undergo some improvements. The bond also included funds to add parking and improve circulation and the project team is incorporating those needs into the overall design.
