On Monday, May 27, 2019, the community gathered for a dedication ceremony of Northshore’s newly installed Veterans Memorial, located at Pop Keeney Stadium. The names engraved in the memorial represent Northshore alumni who lost their lives while serving in the performance of their duty in the United States military to preserve our country’s freedom. More than 350 people were in attendance, including families of those whose names are engraved, students, staff, District families, elected officials, Northshore alumni, and members of the armed services.
The event began with music performed by the U.S. Navy Band Northwest. Speakers for the event included U.S. Representative from Washington’s 1st District, Suzan DelBene, Bothell High alumni and veterans Jim Morrison and Dr. Jeffrey Tomlin, as well as Northshore’s Superintendent Michelle Reid, Ed. D. Military honors were conducted by the Washington State Guard, Buglers Across America, and the U.S. Marine Corps.
On the day dedicated to remembering the fallen, Dr. Reid reminded those in attendance to commit to peace for all people everywhere, "As leaders of today, raising the leaders of tomorrow, let us be ever mindful to fiercely guard and keep safe the commitment to freedom, opportunity, and liberty for all, regardless of race, religion or any other way in which others try to divide us.”
